Stranger Days #49: Reflecting on Reflections

Welcome to stranger days--my blog series exploring daily life, challenges in times of the COVID-19 pandemic, and just sharing insights or thoughts about how to make it through these days.

Well, here we are with post #49 of Stranger Days. I'm glad that I have been able to keep this up and just capture different elements about life during the pandemic--at least for me. I decided today to be a bit meta and reflect on these reflections.  I wanted to look across and see what were the things that seemed most salient.  So I looked back at the last 48 entries to see what kinds of patterns emerge; that is, what were the things I was writing about. None of them are particularly surprising given what I know of myself and how I've used this blog in general.

My categorizing was not particularly methodical and there are some posts that fit into more than one category as you can see when you add up the numbers.

Observations - 16 posts
I mean much of this series has been about looking at what's going on and trying to notice things.  I discussed things like my trip to the grocery store, the bear hunts, local closings, and spring. These aren't necessarily great pieces but none of this series is supposed to be that.  Rather, it is giving me (and maybe readers) an opportunity to think about what our experiences are during this unique time.

Inward Reflections - 16 posts
This blog has often been a place for internal reflections and sense-making. That's been one of the reasons why I have enjoyed it and continued to do it for a decade. So I spent some amount of time talking about the things that I missed, how the pandemic made me think of my dadthe challenges of eating, and situating my privilege in this pandemic. As always, getting to write about what's going on my head helps me figure it out and from what I hear from folks, it also helps them know that they're not the only ones struggling with some things.

Habits/Hobbies (Besides books!) - 13 posts
Another regular topic on this blog that found its way into this series regularly is those that focus on my habits or hobbies.  Whether it was running, gardening, or yoga, I brought those here to think about how they were impacted by the pandemic.

Books - 10 posts
I know everyone was shocked to see this blog talk about books.  Such a shock, right?  There's almost nothing to say here beyond

Questions - 4 posts
I kept returning to talking about the questions because I found them rewarding and others found them useful (several folks told me that they took to doing this).  So I figured that if I shared the questions I created, they might have some to start with.

What have been some of your favorite or useful posts in this series?

Take care. Be careful. Be care-filled.  Welcome to stranger days.
