Welcome to stranger days--my blog series exploring daily life, challenges in times of the COVID-19 pandemic, and just sharing insights or thoughts about how to make it through these days.

Following up on a previous post about the grocery store, I wanted to do another slide show that explores the different places that are closed. I did this walk on Saturday, April 4 and kept it local to shops that are at the end of my street (about 1/4 mile away).

Many of them are closed because of local and state orders and the few places that are open, are doing online, delivery or curbside pick up on.  It's scary to think about how many of these businesses have been closed for weeks now and will be for the foreseeable future.

I keep hoping there will be some solution that will allow these businesses to continue and survive through this--not for the sake of the economy but for the work and efforts of the individuals who own and work at these places that provide a number of benefits to the community.  I know that for many of them the overhead gives them a small margin of profit and I can't imagine how that margin will be attainable as many of them go into debt, lose employees, or product as a result of this.

Along those lines, if you are part of the Arlington community, there are increasing resources and support to help individuals and businesses.  I came across Neighbors Helping Neighbors in Arlington site recently and am thinking about how I too can help out.

What kind of things are you noticing about your neighborhood and the local businesses?  What ways are your communities trying to support local businesses?

Take care. Be careful. Be care-filled.  Welcome to stranger days.
